Marine Le Pen Ahead of Appeal Verdict: No Calls for Rebellion, Emphasizes Thomas Ménagé

In the appeal case of Marine Le Pen, which will be decided on July 7, 2026, Thomas Ménagé clarifies that no calls for rebellion will be made in the event of confirmation of ineligibility.

Paris – 21.06.2026: The appeal trial of Marine Le Pen, scheduled for July 7, 2026, before the Paris Court of Appeal, continues to cause political tension in France. The central question is whether the first-instance judgment will be upheld, which sentenced the former presidential candidate of the Rassemblement National (RN) to a five-year political ban. This ineligibility issued at first instance would prevent Le Pen from running in the 2027 presidential elections – a critical turning point for French domestic politics.

Thomas Ménagé, a close confidant of Marine Le Pen and prominent RN representative, has now commented on the potential consequences of confirming this penalty. He made clear that in such a case, there would be no calls for protests or even uprisings. “We are not La France Insoumise,” he said, referring to the left-populist party that has in the past called for massive demonstrations. The remark underscores the stance of the RN to adhere to the rule of law and not resolve political conflicts violently in the event of an adverse ruling.

The legal dispute centers on allegations of misappropriation of EU funds intended to finance parliamentary assistants. In March 2025, the court sentenced Le Pen to four years in prison, including two years with an electronic ankle bracelet, along with a fine of 100,000 euros. In addition to the prison sentence, a five-year ineligibility was imposed on her – a decision with far-reaching consequences for her political career.

The prosecution seeks confirmation of the penalties in the appeal but waives immediate enforcement of the ineligibility. This could mean that Marine Le Pen might theoretically continue her political activities or even prepare her candidacy for 2027 until the final verdict.

France’s political landscape is closely watching the Paris Court of Appeal’s decision. Marine Le Pen, as a former leader figure of the RN, wields significant influence over the right-wing political current and could be considerably weakened by confirmed ineligibility. The ruling will also shape the strategic direction of the Rassemblement National, which must prepare for the presidential campaign in the coming months.

Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that Marine Le Pen and her circle will continue to shape the political debate significantly. How the legal battle and its consequences are handled will decisively influence domestic political conflicts in France up to the 2027 election and beyond.
