SNCF: Up to Four Hours Delay at Paris Montparnasse Station – Train Traffic Severely Disrupted

SNCF reports significant train delays at Montparnasse station due to weather conditions, equipment failures, and a technical malfunction.

Paris – 23.06.2026: This afternoon, there were profound disruptions to train traffic at Paris Montparnasse station, resulting in delays of up to four hours. The SNCF cites combined causes: unfavorable weather conditions, equipment failures on the trains, and a technical malfunction within the railway infrastructure.

The authorities have not yet provided specific details about the weather conditions. However, it is generally known that extreme weather effects such as heavy rain, thunderstorms, or strong gusts can severely affect railway systems. Such weather situations can disrupt signal technology and interfere with the power supply to trains, which greatly impacts the safety and punctuality of train traffic.

The equipment failures apparently relate to technical defects on individual trains or the track infrastructure. Causes can include wear due to aging, unexpected technological breakdowns, or maintenance deficiencies. Additionally, a separate malfunction was reported, which also contributed to the delays. These combined problems led to significant delays and brought regular traffic at the heavily frequented station to a halt.

The situation is problematic for commuters and travelers: connections to other trains may be missed, and scheduled travel times are hardly manageable. The SNCF therefore points out that passengers have the right to compensation. For delays of 30 minutes, travelers usually receive 25 percent of the ticket price back, and for delays over two hours, 50 percent. Those affected are encouraged to claim their entitlements directly through the official SNCF channels.

Given the current situation, SNCF recommends that anyone planning to use Montparnasse station in the coming days check the schedules on the official website or at the station information counters before starting their journey. Restrictions and adjustments may still occur.

The incidents on June 23 fit into a series of similar disruptions at Montparnasse station. Back in July 2023, massive delays and widespread train cancellations occurred due to technical defects. At that time, compensation was broadly granted to those affected.

SNCF continually works to modernize the infrastructure and increase operational reliability. Nevertheless, extreme weather and unforeseen technical malfunctions can cause disruptions at any time. Travelers should therefore regularly monitor current information and allow sufficient time for their trips to avoid inconveniences.

Further details and current updates are available on the official SNCF website and directly on-site at Montparnasse station.
