Trial Against 15 People in the “Marché du Soleil” Case in Marseille Begins
On June 22, 2026, the trial against 15 defendants linked to the "Marché du Soleil" – a notorious hub for counterfeit goods – will start before the Criminal Court of Marseille.
Marseille – 22.06.2026: On June 22, 2026, a significant trial begins before the Criminal Court of Marseille, in which 15 individuals are charged due to their involvement in illegal activities at the “Marché du Soleil“. The more than 3,000 square meter covered market in the center of Marseille had been known for decades as a hub for counterfeit products.
In February 2026, a large-scale raid by the Marseille public prosecutor’s office resulted in the seizure of more than 200,000 counterfeit items – primarily textiles, shoes, and perfumes – with an estimated value of nearly 42 million euros. The operation led to the market being closed for six months.
Among the defendants are several traders as well as three municipal police officers and one official from the Prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône. They are accused of corruption and abuse of office. According to the allegations, they accepted counterfeit goods and passed on information about upcoming inspections. Until the trial, they are under judicial supervision and have been provisionally suspended.
The other suspects are suspected of having organized the manufacturing, possession, and sale of counterfeits. They are also suspected of serious money laundering and violations of customs regulations. The trial is scheduled from June 22 to 26, 2026, and promises to be an important step in the fight against counterfeiting and corruption.
French authorities emphasize the importance of cooperation between different institutions to effectively combat such criminal structures and ensure the integrity of public offices. The case “Marché du Soleil” is part of intensified efforts to fight the counterfeit industry, which causes significant economic damage.
The closure of the market and the charges against municipal employees demonstrate the judiciary’s determination to act not only against traders but also against corrupt officials. The public is following the trial with great interest, as it may have far-reaching effects on combating product counterfeiting and corruption in France.
Especially sectors such as textiles and perfumes, which have high economic importance in France, hope for a deterrent effect that such proceedings can generate. Additionally, cooperation between police, customs, and the judiciary will be further intensified in the future to detect and prevent similar cases early on.
The outcome of the trial is also significant from an economic perspective, as product counterfeiting not only reduces sales but also endangers the reputation of French companies. The massive seizure and now the trial aim to send a clear signal for law and order.
